Suicide

Prevention

Because Every Life Matters.

Hope is Always Within Reach

Suicide Prevention at The Center

At The Center for Counseling & Consultation, we believe every life has value. Suicide prevention is not just a program — it is a commitment to our neighbors, our schools, our families, and our future.

Across Barton, Pawnee, Rice, and Stafford counties, we are working together to cultivate help, hope, and healing. Through youth leadership, community partnerships, education, and crisis support, we are building a region where no one has to struggle alone.

You do not have to be in immediate danger to reach out.
You will not get in trouble for asking for help.
There is someone ready to listen.

Our Commitment to Suicide Prevention

Suicide prevention requires more than awareness — it requires action, conversation, and collaboration.

In 2026 and beyond, we are prioritizing communication and collaboration across our communities. We are strengthening partnerships with schools, families, local organizations, healthcare providers, and community leaders to ensure that support is visible, accessible, and compassionate.

We believe:

There is no wrong door for help.

Early intervention saves lives.

Youth voices matter.

Education reduces stigma.

Communities heal together.

For Teens - This is For You

Hey.

If you landed on this page because things feel heavy… we’re really glad you’re here.

Maybe you’re overwhelmed.
Maybe you’re exhausted.
Maybe you feel like no one understands what’s going on in your head.
Maybe you’ve thought about hurting yourself.

First — you are not weak for feeling this way.
Second — you are not alone, even if it feels like it.

You deserve:

  • To be heard.

  • To feel safe.

  • To have someone take you seriously.

  • To have a future bigger than this moment.

Talking about suicide does NOT get you in trouble. It does not automatically mean hospitalization. It does not make you dramatic.

It means you’re brave enough to say, “I need help.”

If calling feels scary, you can text 988.
If that feels like too much, tell one safe adult.
If you don’t know who that is — start with us.

Your story is not over.

For Parents & Caregivers

Conversations save lives.

If you’re concerned about your child:

  • Look for sudden behavior changes.

  • Take talk of hopelessness seriously.

  • Ask direct, calm questions.

  • Avoid minimizing feelings.

  • Create a safety plan with support.

We are here to partner with you — not judge you.

How to Help Someone
You Care About

If you’re worried about someone:

  • Take changes in mood or behavior seriously.

  • Ask directly: “Are you thinking about suicide?”

  • Stay with them if they are at immediate risk.

  • Remove access to anything they could use to hurt themselves.

  • Help them connect to professional support.

Asking about suicide does NOT plant the idea.
It opens the door to honesty.

If you’re unsure what to say, we can help.

Get Involved

Suicide prevention belongs to all of us.

You can:

  • Join the Taskforce

  • Apply for Teen Council

  • Host a training

Together, we are building a community where asking for help is normal and hope is visible.

Our Mission

At The Center for Counseling & Consultation, we are committed to cultivating help, hope, and healing across Central Kansas.

If you need support — reach out.

If you want to lead — join us.

If you care — you’re already part of this movement.

Hope is always within reach.

Support After Loss

The impact of suicide reaches far beyond one life.

If you have lost someone to suicide, you may experience grief, confusion, anger, guilt, or numbness. There is no “right” way to feel.

We offer:

  • Individual counseling

  • Family support

  • Community response coordination

  • Grief resources

You do not have to carry this alone.
