"Hi, I'm Candy. Here, your story is heard and honored. This is where healing can begin."
Meet Candace:
Candace “Candy” Maxwell is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) with more than 23 years of experience providing therapy in private practice, school, and community mental health settings. She works with individuals, couples, and families, helping clients navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, and life transitions.
Candy brings a wide range of experience supporting teens, women, and individuals impacted by trauma, abuse, or self-harm. She is also a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and has extensive experience educating schools, families, and community groups on topics such as suicide prevention, self-injury awareness, attachment, relationship health, and strengthening family functioning.
Her therapeutic approach is person-centered, holistic, and encouraging. Candy believes therapy should help people reconnect with their sense of purpose while building practical skills for everyday life. She works collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, set meaningful goals, and develop strategies that restore emotional balance and promote growth.
As an eclectic clinician, Candy integrates a variety of evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), existential therapy, and faith-integrated counseling. She is also Level 3 trained in the Gottman Method, providing structured, research-based couples therapy to help partners strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen connection.
In addition to her clinical work, Candy trains mental health professionals, educators, medical providers, and community organizations on topics such as self-injury intervention, healthy technology use, parenting strategies, and biopsychosocial assessment. She also serves as a Qualified Supervisor for mental health counselor interns in Florida, supporting the next generation of clinicians and expanding access to quality care.
Candy considers it an honor to walk alongside people in their healing journeys and is passionate about helping clients move beyond simply surviving to truly thriving. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, reading, relaxing at the beach, and proudly holds the title of her city’s Saturday-night karaoke queen.
