The Parent Peer Support Specialist provides guidance, encouragement, and advocacy for families raising children experiencing serious emotional challenges. Drawing from lived experience, this role helps parents navigate systems of care, understand available resources, and build confidence in supporting their child’s mental health needs. This position works closely with treatment teams to strengthen family stability and improve outcomes for youth.

Provide peer-based support to parents and caregivers of children with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED)
Assist families in understanding their child’s diagnosis, treatment options, and support services
Teach coping strategies, parenting approaches, and behavior management techniques
Help families understand special education rights, 504 plans, and advocacy processes
Support families in identifying and accessing community resources
Participate in treatment team meetings and psychosocial support groups
Provide support during crisis situations within scope of role
Assist families in building self-advocacy skills and navigating systems of care
Complete required documentation accurately and timely
Attend trainings and professional development opportunities
Perform additional duties as assigned
Requisitos
Minimum Qualifications
Lived experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with SED, SUD, or co-occurring mental health challenges
Valid Kansas driver’s license with favorable driving record
Clean KBI and DCF Adult & Child Abuse checks
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field OR four (4) years equivalent experience
Ability to complete Case Management training within 6 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field
Knowledge of community resources and support systems
Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
