About the Role

This position is responsible for advocating, educating and providing support to families living with a child/children with serious emotional difficulties. Parent Support is designed to benefit the Medicaid eligible child experiencing a serious emotional disturbance who, without SED waiver services, would require state psychiatric hospitalization.

Job Responsibilities Include:
Assisting families in understanding effective parenting skills in relation to the child's mental illness and treatment - developing a safe and supportive environment in the home - understanding problem solving skills, coping mechanisms and strategies for behavior management; Assisting in facilitating treatment team meetings; Providing support groups to parents with emotionally disturbed children; Assisting families during crisis situations alongside other treatment team members and within their scope of practice; Assisting families in identifying, understanding and accessing services and resources to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life such as special education and 504 policies & procedures and rights
Responsible for timely and accurate documentation. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Qualified Candidates will have lived experience as a parent or caregiver for a child with severe emotional disturbance/substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health diagnoses. Requires High School Diploma or equivalent, degree in psychology, social work or related area preferred, valid KS Driver's License with favorable driving record, background free of abuse/neglect. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
