“Hi, I’m Shannon, and even in the hardest moments, I’ll help you look for the light and find your way forward.”
Meet Shannon:
Shannon Merhoff is a licensed master’s level psychologist (LMLP) and crisis therapist at The Center for Counseling. Prior to joining The Center, she worked as a Mental Health Developmental Disability (MHDD) provider at Larned State Hospital, supporting adult psychiatric patients. She later continued her work with The Center as an intern therapist while completing her master’s degree at Fort Hays State University.
Shannon recently graduated and passed her licensure exam and is officially a Licensed Master's Level Psychologist (LMLP). Her clinical experience includes working with clients across the lifespan, from young children through older adults, though she most often works with teens and adults.
Shannon uses a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based strategies in her work. While she is still building her areas of specialization, she has a strong interest in grief, trauma, and anxiety. She believes in keeping therapy honest and human—making space for both the hard, messy parts of life and the moments of humor and light along the way.
Shannon lives by the quote, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light,” and strives to help clients find their own “switch” toward hope and healing. Outside of work, she enjoys video games, reading, camping, traveling, and painting.
